The UN committee, responsible for studying the implementation of the declaration on the granting of independence to colonial countries and peoples, is more generally called the "Special Committee of 24". It oversaw the independence of the former Indonesian province of East Timor (Timor Leste). The number of remaining countries and territories to be decolonised has, therefore, dropped from 17 to 16. This is International Education Week and the College of New Caledonia has a number of events set up. On Thursday, there will be a pot luck lunch served jointed by the International Students and the First Nations students. There will be a badminton tournament in the gymnasium over the weekend and a host of other events. In 2007, there were about 50 international students attending CNC. That number has risen to more than 350 today. They come from various different countries and backgrounds. "Depends on the different markets around the world.
